In the 1990's, the Mid Market Street section of San Francisco was a run down area filled with strip joints and porn shops. Two of these businesses were the Regal Show World and The Market Street Cinema. The Regal Show World was a stripper theater without a traditional stage. Instead, the dancers each had a small private space to "entertain" customers and a round performance "stage" surrounded on all sides with private areas where customers could enter, pay money and a window would open allowing the customers to view the women dancing inside. The Market Street Cinema was a large traditional style theater where the women danced on a stage and entertained the customers in the audience and in private rooms. In 1997, I was given access to photograph these facilities and the women who performed there.
